Podcast #2 Color Theory

The right use of color can do what?
Maximize productivity,relax the body,and minimize visual fatigue.
Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?
Visible light.
Describe white light?
Equal parts of all colors.
How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
absorb or reflect or one or more colors.
What is a glass prism?
a transparent triangular object that breaks white light.
What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
Red,orange,yellow,green,blue,indigo,violet.
Describe hue?
A different reflected wavelength.
When does white light occur?
All wavelengths are reflected back.
When does black light occur?
No light if reflected back.
How color is perceived depends on what?
Type of light it is seen with.
What is a color wheel?
Visual tool that shows relationship between colors.
What are primary colors? Name them?
Main colors, Red, Yellow, Blue.
What are secondary colors? Name them?
When mixing 2 primary colors, Orange, Green, Violet.
What are tertiary colors? Name them?
When Primary and Secondary mix, Red-Orange,Yellow-Orange,Yellow-Green,Blue-Green,Blue-Violet, and Red-Violet.
What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
Don't show up on color wheel, mixing complementary colors.
How can a neutral color help a design?
Focus on other colors.
What are complementary colors? Name them?
Opposite of other color, Red-Green.
What is color value?
Lightness or Darkness of a hue.
What is a shade?
Adding black to a hue.
What is a tint?
Adding white to a hue.
What is saturation/intensity?
Brightness of a color.
What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
Dull tone.
Describe color harmony?
Pleasing to the eye.
What is a color scheme?
Used to create style and appeal.
Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
Uses variations of tints and shades of one color.
Describe an analogous color scheme?
Uses 3 colors that are adjacent colors on a color wheel.( one hue as main color)
Describe a complementary color scheme?
Uses 2 colors opposite of each other on the color wheel.
Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
1 color and 2 adjacent to its complement.
Describe a triadic color scheme?
3 colors equally spaced around color when.
What colors are considered to be warm colors?
Colors found in sun. Yellow,Orange.
Describe a warm color scheme?
Bold and energetic.
What colors are considered to be cool colors?
Greens,Blues,Violets.
Describe a cool color scheme?
Calm.
Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
How colors are perceived.
